Manchester United dealt another injury setback ahead of Everton clash on Sunday

November 25th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Manchester United have been dealt yet another injury setback after Mason Mount suffered a calf strain that could keep him out of action for up to a month.

Mount was hurt in training ahead of United’s trip to Everton on Sunday. The club’s medical staff are still assessing the problem, but the early indications are that he could be out for between three and four weeks.

It’s another huge setback for Mount who has struggled to make an impact since joining United from Chelsea for £60million in the summer, and has already missed six games through injury this season.

The 24-year-old joins other central midfielders Casemiro and Christian Eriksen on the sidelines as United continue to be dogged by injury problems at a crucial stage of the season.

It comes as Luke Shaw prepares to play for the first time in three months at Goodison Park after recovering from a torn thigh muscle. The England defender played in the first two games of the season but has not been seen since.

Ex-Premier League star blasts Mason Mount, says he’s not good enough to start for Man United

August 5th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Gabriel Agbonlahor has suggested Mason Mount is not good enough to start for Manchester United.

Mount, 24, joined the Red Devils in a £60million transfer from Chelsea last month.

He has already made five pre-season appearances for the club, but Agbonlahor is not convinced that he will be the important player Erik ten Hag needs when the Premier League season kicks off.

The former striker went as far as to suggest that Mount is not even good enough to play for Aston Villa.

He said on talkSPORT: “He doesn’t even make the bench, mate. He’s the last sub on the bench.

“Mason Mount is nowhere near making that team, nowhere near.”

(Watch Video) Mason Mount FINALLY reveals reason he left Chelsea

July 6th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Mason Mount has revealed it was made clear to him several months ago that he did not have a future at Chelsea.

The England international completed a £55m plus add-ons move to Manchester United on Wednesday, putting pen to paper on a five-year deal.

The 24-year-old had been an integral cog at Stamford Bridge over the past few seasons, but struggled for consistency last term during what was a forgettable campaign for the Blues.

And in his first interview since completing his move to Old Trafford, Mount revealed he was left under no illusions that his future lay away from west London.

“Several months ago, it became clear I wasn’t in Chelsea’s plans going forward and once I knew United were involved my decision was made up,” he told MUTV.

“Massive club, huge iconic players that have played here and I wanted to be part of that from the beginning. Getting here early ready for pre-season to start was a main objective of mine as well.”

Mount was shown round United’s training facilities for the first time on Tuesday, introducing himself to everyone on campus, from the receptionists to the kitchen staff.

The midfielder admits he was blown away by the close-knit feeling created by all those at the club – a trait that resonates with him after revealing that he had been on a trip to Disneyland with his niece before heading back to get the deal done.

Mauricio Pochettino identifies Mason Mount replacement

June 30th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Chelsea have reportedly identified Spanish youngster Gabri Veiga as a replacement for Mason Mount.

Mount is set to join Manchester United after a £60m fee was finally agreed.

Pochettino is set to reap the benefits of reducing the size of his squad already this summer, with the Evening Standard reporting that the ex-Tottenham boss will be granted the ability to sign an attacking-minded midfielder before the start of next season.

It was previously planned that the Argentine would be allowed to sign one defensive midfielder this summer but the mass outgoings has prompted a change of plan.

Veiga, who plays for La Liga side Celta Vigo, has a release clause in his contract of £34.6m.

Top clubs across Europe also hold an interest in the midfielder, though the Blues will be hoping that the guarantee of opportunities in the Premier League will prove decisive in negotiations.

Mason Mount told to stay at Chelsea instead of Manchester United

June 27th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Chelsea icon Emmanuel Petit has urged Mason Mount to stay at Stamford Bridge and told Mauricio Pochettino to build the team around the England international.

Manchester United’s offers for Mount have been rejected by Chelsea with the star having just twelve months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Petit told Genting Casino: “I hope Chelsea can keep Mason Mount as a potential player to build the team around.

“I remember the best season at Chelsea came from the foundation of English players. I think that identity is also very important to the fans as well.

“One of the best teams ever at Chelsea were built around players like Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and John Terry. There are so many foreign players currently at Chelsea who have no fraternity with each other.

“This is a priority for me. I hope Mason Mount and Reece James – who are both players who represent the club – stay so that Chelsea and their new players can be centered around them.”

Chelsea join Victor Osimhen bidding war

June 27th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Chelsea are reportedly planning to contact Napoli over a stunning move for Victor Osimhen.

The Blues are now ready to make a move for Osimhen, according to Sky Sports journalist Massimo Marianella.

However, Marianella claims that Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are ahead of the Blues in the race to sign the striker.

The reporter told Sky Sports Italia: “In the last few hours in England, they say that even Chelsea are about to make a phone call to Napoli for Osimhen.

“It seems that one door is closed, which is that of Real Madrid, the two most open to catch a striker remain Manchester United and PSG.

“At that point, a place would also open up at Tottenham.”

Chelsea stand firm on Mason Mount as Manchester United circle

May 27th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Chelsea are holding out for £55m and won’t sell Mason Mount for less as Manchester United are reportedly a long way short of agreeing a transfer.

The Independant claim the player is ready to go to Man Utd so the agreement on a fee is the only thing stopping the move.

The Red Devils are keen to try and sign the Chelsea midfielder, 24, this summer as he enters the final year of his Stamford Bridge contract.

But according to the report, the Blues are demanding a staggering £55million for the academy graduate.

And the report insists the Old Trafford side are not even close to matching that sky-high valuation – especially amid uncertainty over the club’s ownership and transfer budget.

Erik ten Hag is prioritising a new striker and a centre-back when the transfer window reopens.

Liverpool and Arsenal have also shown interest in Mount.

Mason Mount: Man United set to beat Arsenal, Liverpool move, to submit bid for Chelsea star

May 24th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Chelsea’s Mason Mount looks set to leave the club and Manchester United are ready to submit a £55m bid to sign him, according to The Daily Mail.

Mount, 24, has a contract which expires in 2024 and has yet to come to agreement over new terms.

Mount is reportedly seeking a wage commensurate with his status as an England international and a senior player at Chelsea with Reece James’ £250,000-a-week deal thought to be a benchmark in negotiations.

Chelsea would want around £70m to let him go, with Arsenal and Liverpool also linked, but new Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly keen to keep Mount if possible.

Graham Potter breaks silence on Mason Mount contract impasse as Liverpool, Man United, City circle

February 18th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Graham Potter says he hopes Chelsea can resolve Mason Mount’s contract situation quickly with the two parties at an impasse.

Academy graduate Mount is out of contract next summer and attracting interest from Premier League rivals as talks continue over a new deal.

The Blues are keen to tie the England midfielder down to a long-term deal, though his camp are not happy with the terms that have been discussed so far meaning little progress has been made.

Asked about the situation, Potter said: “It is always complicated, there are always negotiations.

“It is best that I leave it between Mason and the club, it is the best way for that to be dealt with as far as I’m concerned.

“He has been fantastic to work with, an important player for us and I hope it gets resolved quickly.”

After a run of below par performances, Mount – who is being tracked by THREE Premier League rivals – has been dropped from the starting line-up in Chelsea’s last two games, coming on from the bench against both West Ham and Borussia Dortmund.

Potter has been pleased with the reaction from the 24-year-old, who is in contention to start against Southampton this weekend.

Mount has a stunning record against the South Coast side, with the boyhood Portsmouth fan scoring four goals and claiming two assists in seven Premier League games against the Saints.
