Thierry Henry compares Chelsea star to Arsenal legend

Thierry Henry lavished Chelsea’s Champions League matchwinner Kai Havertz with praise after he held his nerve and converted the decisive pressure penalty in last night’s win over Borussia Dortmund.

Graham Potter’s side trailed 1-0 from the first leg but, buoyed by their morale-boosting win over Leeds United last weekend, Chelsea set about their task of wiping out the deficit with gusto at a raucous Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s pressure eventually yielded rresult two minutes before the interval when Raheem Sterling lashed home from close range, before Havertz stepped up to the plate early in the second half and calmly stroked home the winning goal having been granted the opportunity to retake his spot kick due to Dortmund encroachment after seeing his initial effort rebound off the post.

Aside from his winning goal, Henry was impressed with the Germany international’s link-up play which he thought was reminiscent of his former Arsenal teammate Robin van Persie.

“I thought he was good on the first goal you could see held the ball ever so well,” Henry told CBS Sport, via the Metro.

“He reminds me sometimes, a little, of Robin back to goal the way he can hold the ball. Robin van Persie was very good with his left foot, the touch was always immaculate he tried to bring people along.

“This is why out of the guys that used to be wingers or No.10 he plays as a nine because with his his back to goal he can hold the ball well.

“Now he needs to make sure he can transform that into more goals because you can play off him.”

Despite having scored the winning goals in Chelsea’s recent Champions League and Club World Cup triumphs, Havertz remains something of a divisive character, largely on account of the fact he has never suggested he will be prolific enough in front of goal to cement his status as Chelsea’s main striker.

“Havertz is a strange player in that there are a lot of players at Chelsea who haven’t really performed,’ argued Henry’s fellow pundit Jamie Carragher.

“Ziyech, Pulisic, Raheem Sterling hasn’t set the world on fire yet. Havertz has done better than all of those players but is it still enough to be the main man for Chelsea?

“It’s sort of in between both and that’s why he always plays. He plays on the last manager and under this manager.

“But most people would still look at Havertz and think is that enough for Chelsea to win the Premier League.

“It still feels al little bit short of what the other top teams have, even though he’s done OK since he’s gone to Chelsea.”

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry expresses fear as reasons for Frank Lampard’s move for Aubameyang are revealed

May 7th, 2020 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Thierry Henry has expressed his apprehension over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s likely departure in the summer, saying he would be difficult to replace if he left Arsenal.

Aubameyang has been linked with a move away from Arsenal over the past six months, with his contract expiring in the summer of 2021.

Chelsea are one of the top European clubs angling to sign the Gabon international in the summer.

Henry wants Aubameyang to stay at Arsenal – but admits he would understand if he chose to leave the club instead after doing the same thing himself as a player.

He told Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp on Thursday’s The Football Show: “Everybody will do what they have to do. How am I going to tell someone to stay when I left? As an Arsenal fan, you want him to stay, but as a football player, he will assess the situation with his family, with his dad who I know also and will see what’s the best for them.

“If you’re an Arsenal man, you don’t want him to leave but also the guy has a career. I don’t know what’s in his head and where he wants to go, but all I know is that we are definitely going to miss his goals if he does leave. He does score goals and if you take the goals of Aubameyang away, it’s a tough one.

“I respect the decisions of people, I respect what they have to go through and what dream or desire they have but any Arsenal fan would be crazy to say he should leave. We don’t want him to leave but on the other side, you have to understand that the guy may need to see something else.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Lampard is interested in bringing Aubameyang to the club after another impressive campaign for Arsenal.

According to Bleacher Report, Lampard is tempted to make a move Aubameyang for two significant reasons.

Firstly, the Chelsea manager believes he could secure his signing for a similar price that it would cost to bring in Moussa Dembele from Lyon.

And secondly, Aubameyang would add some crucial experience to Lampard’s youthful squad as they look to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City above them.
