Manchester United suffer Euro 2024 star blow

Manchester United have suffered a transfer blow as RB Leipzig are confident of landing Paris Saint-Germain star Xavi Simons on loan for a second season, according to Fabrizio Romano.

United are said to be interested in securing a permanent move for the midfielder following his impressive displays at Euro 2024.

PSG have no plans to sell Simons but are open to a loan move, with Leipzig and Bayern Munich battling to secure the 21-year-old’s signature.

Manchester United, Arsenal suffer blow over Euro 2024 star

Manchester United and Arsenal may have suffered a blow in the capture of Xavi Simons.

The Dutch star was one of the Netherlands’ key performers in the Euros.

The playmaker, who is contracted to PSG, seemingly sees his future elsewhere.

Now, according to Sky Sports in Germany he has agreed terms with Bayern Munich.

Manchester United plot move for EURO 2024 star

Xavi Simons faces a big decision over his future now he is out of the Euros – with Manchester United hot on his heels, according to The Sun.

The talented Dutchman, whose stunner opened the scoring in Wednesday’s 2-1 semi-final defeat to England, spent this term on loan from Paris Saint-Germain at RB Leipzig.

Leipzig are among a trio of clubs showing strong interest along with fellow Germans Bayern Munich and United.

PSG are yet to decide on Simons’ future but given the 21-year-old is eager for consistent game-time, there is a good chance he departs the Parc de Princes this summer.

It will depend on whether boss Luis Enrique wants to make him a regular – but with a vast array of attacking talent at the Spaniard’s disposal, and more expected to arrive this summer, that is in doubt.

Any exit would almost certainly be a loan at first, with an obligation to buy, as there is understood to be a hefty sell-on clause for former club PSV Eindhoven which expires at the end of 2024.

PSG re-signed Simons from PSV in 2023 for £5million but would be looking for around £70m to let him go now given his rapid improvement this term.

It’s taken the Dutch just seven minutes…

Xavi Simons has nearly taken the net off with a cracker of a strike after Declan Rice lost the ball in midfield.

The youngster had a lot of work to do, but he just crashes the ball straight into the top corner.

Pickford had no chance getting anywhere near that, even if his arms were twice the length.

Arsenal join Europe’s heavyweight chase for free-scoring PSG star

Paris Saint-Germain have been contacted by Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Manchester United over the signing of Xavi Simons, according to L’Equipe.

However, the Ligue 1 giants don’t plan to sell the 21-year-old forward this summer and intend to loan him out for a second successive season.

Simons spent last term on loan at RB Leipzig after PSG triggered a £5m buy-back clause in his PSV Eindhoven contract.

The Dutchman registered 10 goals and 15 assists in 43 appearances for Leipzig, attracting heavyweight interest.
