Thomas Tuchel explains why he’s starting Ross Barkley as Chelsea, Burnley name line-up

Ross Barkley makes his first Premier League start of the season this afternoon against Burnley at Stamford Bridge.

The 27-year-old has come off the bench in three out of Chelsea’s last four Prem outings, but is trusted from the first whistle today.

Thomas Tuchel has spoken on the decision to play Barkley from the start, saying: “He deserves it, as simple as that, by his performances and attitude.

“Ross was very strong when he came in vs Southampton, he turned things around, and he helped us vs Newcastle when he stepped in.”

This will be Thomas Tuchel’s 30th Premier League game in charge of Chelsea.

The Blues have kept 18 clean sheets since his first game in charge in January.

That’s four more than any other side.

Only Jose Mourinho kept more than 18 in his first 30 games in charge in the competition (22).
