Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel said Timo Werner needs to keep improving his game and joked that every time he scores there is a feeling that VAR will take it away after one of his two goals against Southampton was disallowed.
Tuchel said: “All of us [are relieved] but in the end, he was where he needs to be. If we have a ball from Ross [Barkley] like we had, a delivery from Azpi [Cesar Azpilicueta], you need to be there.
“We have the feeling that every time he scores there is a VAR decision ready to take it away from him. These are very narrow decisions: I remember one against Liverpool that was super close.
“He has to keep on going, he can improve his game, a lot to improve but we are happy and relieved also that he scored in the late minutes of this game.
“It was a very important goal to secure the win and on the other hand he was there where he needed to be”
