Tuchel explains why Mason Mount is important to Chelsea, reacts to comments about English players scoring all seven goals against Norwich

Chelsea boss Thomas has revealed why Mason Mount is important to his team after the Blues crushed Norwich 7-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The west London’s club midfielder went home with the match ball for the match after bagging his first hat-trick in a blue jersey.

The German pinpointed the fact that Mount plays an important role in the team, highlighting the club’s academy product’s “style and personality”.

Tuchel’s words: “We play most games with three strikers and Mason is one of them. Maybe Mason is between an eight and a ten, so not a real striker, so we depend heavily on him. He plays a key role and you never know.

“The wing-backs arrive with freedom and new positions to give us strikers in the last line where they feel more confident.

“We want to depend on Mason because we like his style and personality. He is a top player and a top guy.”

The German de-emphazised the question about all the goals against Norwich coming from English players in the club.

He said: “It’s not about the English players or foreign players.

“We just want to be dangerous. The wing-backs arrive in the box and we have the freedom and spirit to attack the box and in the spaces around the box.

“It’s important we bring bodies around our attacks and that makes things easier. To have a hat-trick for Mason is huge because he puts a little pressure on himself.

“I’ve felt him a bit lighter and with more freedom in the last few matches, which is what he needs.

“He is very serious about the goals he wants to reach. I feel him lighter now and it means a lot to him as an academy boy.”
