Manchester City have one foot in the Champions League semi-finals after Pep Guardiola’s side dominate Bayern Munich, beating the Bundesliga giants 3-0 at the Etihad.

In a blockbuster quarter-final tie between the two favourites to go all the way in Europe this season, the deadlock was broken in fitting fashion as Rodri curled a stunning left-footed strike into the top corner.

Bayern responded after the break and pushed for an equaliser as the first leg remained in the balance, but a disastrous spell for Thomas Tuchel’s side saw City take complete control of the tie.

Dayot Upamecano was caught on the ball with 20 minutes remaining and the hosts pounced, Erling Haaland clipping a cross to the back post where Bernardo Silva was free to head home.

And Haaland, as ever, then got himself on the scoresheet too, making it 45 goals from the season.

City were always a threat and extended their lead with 20 minutes left, Haaland crossing perfectly for Bernardo Silva to head home after Jack Grealish stole possession off Upemecano.

Haaland was not to be denied and he pounced for City’s third six minutes later, getting on the end of John Stones’ headed knockdown to sweep a finish past Bayern keeper Yann Sommer.

Haaland’s record breaking will capture the headlines as the 22-year-old Norwegian’s voracious appetite for goals shows no sign of being satisfied.

This, however, was much more than a one-man show as Pep Guardiola’s side had outstanding performers in all areas as they go in pursuit of the one major trophy that has remained tantalisingly out of reach during the manager’s years of huge success at Etihad Stadium.
