Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale was kicked by a spectator in the Tottenham home crowd following his side’s win over their rivals.

The scuffle started as the England international was confronted by Richarlison after the whistle was blown, with security separating the pair after Ramsdale had celebrated in front of the Spurs fans.

Players moved over to follow the action, which ended up by the advertising hoarding, where Ramsdale went to pick up his water bottle. One person from the home end stood up on the hoardings and kicked Ramsdale. It marks an ugly end to a North London Derby that was played in good spirits for the majority of proceedings.

The Gunners took control of the game in the first-half, playing through the Tottenham press to create some openings in the clash. Bukayo Saka’s run on the right flank ended up with a ball across the face of the box which Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris parried into his own net.

The lead was later doubled by captain Martin Odegaard, who scored from a long-range strike that nestled into the bottom corner. The second half provided a different reaction from Spurs, but they were unable to find a way beyond Sky Sports’ Man of the Match Ramsdale.

The 24-year-old explained after the game that he was receiving some comments from Tottenham fans behind him, giving them some jokes back after the game, kissing the Arsenal badge on his shirt.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, he said: “The Spurs fans were giving me some throughout the second half. I gave them some back to which the few people that I did to it was probably well greeted, sportsmanship like, and then a fan jumped over and gave me a little punch [kick] in the back so that’s what happened.

“It’s a shame because it’s just a game of football at the end of the day. Both sets of players tried to bring me away, thankfully nothing actually happened too drastically but it’s a sour taste – I’m sure we’ll enjoy it when we go back in the dressing room.”
