Zidane describes as ABSURD possibility Real Madrid could be kicked out of Champions League

Zinedine Zidane considers as absurd the suggestion that Real Madrid could be kicked out the Champions League, insisting that Los Blancos ‘have the right’ to play in the competition.

There had been suggestions that Real, who have reached the semi-finals, could be eliminated from the Champions League after their president Florentino Perez played a key part in the plans for a European Super League that ultimately didn’t materialise.

Following a UEFA meeting on Friday, it has been decided that none of the clubs involved will receive sporting punishment, with Real to remain in the Champions League.

On Thursday it was claimed that Real’s place in the competition was under threat, which angered Zidane.

As reported by Marca, Zidane said: ‘We have the right to play the Champions League, it is absurd, and we are going to prepare for it.’

There were claims that in addition to being thrown out of this season’s Champions League, Real could also be banned from next season’s tournament, but they will now still be able to participate.

Real were one of 12 clubs who agreed to be part of the European Super League, with their Champions League semi-final opponents Chelsea also involved.

Perez was also named as the chairman of the Super League and insisted that Real are still involved in the breakaway league, which he says could eventually go ahead in a different format.
