Belgium national team manager reveals why Romelu Lukaku must leave Manchester United

Roberto Martinez has revealed why it is necessary for Romelu Lukaku to leave Manchester United, stating that “It would be good for both parties”.

The Belgium international has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan this summer.

According to Football Italia, negotiations are on-going between the Serie A club and the Old Trafford side.

The striker is first choice for new Nerazzurri boss Antonio Conte, although the €80m asking price is proving a problem and several player exchanges are being discussed.

“It’s clear that Romelu Lukaku needs to leave Manchester United. It would be good for both parties,” Martinez told HLN Sport in Belgium.

“It’s now up to Rom to find the right club.”

The 26-year-old scored 15 goals in 45 competitive appearances for Manchester United this season, but looked a completely different player when wearing the Belgium jersey.

Everton sold him to United for €84m in 2017, beating competition from Conte’s Chelsea.
