Frank Lampard opens up about adding new players to his Chelsea squad

Frank Lampard has revealed he is still hoping to add new faces to his squad in the summer transfer window despite clubs’ concerns over the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech has already agreed to join the club on July 1 in a £37.4million deal to become Lampard’s first signing as manager.

Philippe Coutinho and Timo Werner have both been linked with with the west London club, while reports suggest a bid has been lodged for Ajax full-back Nicolas Tagliafico.

With Chelsea on course to qualify for the Champions League, Lampard insists he is happy with his squad at present but is hoping to bolster his options with summer arrivals if the opportunity arrives, report the Evening Standard.

“I’m certainly excited about the squad we’ve got, with the young players and if we can get a few additions for areas I feel we need,” Lampard told Chelsea’s official magazine.

“We didn’t bring in anyone in January, it didn’t work out to be right for us at the time, and last summer we couldn’t bring anyone in, so those windows are gone and we haven’t changed.

“So I am excited about the squad we’ve got, [but] if we can freshen up in the right areas we all know that [we will try].”
