Half-Time Report: Chelsea 1-0 Eintracht Frankfurt… Loftus-Cheek gives Blues lead

Chelsea are 45 minutes away from securing a Europa League final berth, holding a 1-0 lead on the night and a 2-1 advantage on aggregate over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Sarri’s side picked up where they left off in Frankfurt, circulating the ball swiftly, purposefully and allowing Frankfurt no respite.

Unlike in Germany, however, Chelsea took their chances this time, Loftus-Cheek converting expertly.

Adi Hutter’s men did come out of the traps firing, which saw Kepa Arrizabalaga produce a fine save to deny Danny da Costa.

Olivier Giroud saw an effort saved at the other end before Loftus-Cheek calmed Chelsea nerves put bending an effort into the bottom corner.

Hazard, as ever, made the difference with an incisive pass to find Loftus-Cheek, who finished calmly. Frankfurt may need a tactical rethink if they are to take those noisy fans to Baku.

The Blues were comfortable for the majority of the first half, putting the pressure on the German outfit to produce a response after the restart.

Frankfurt have had a couple of moments outside of Da Costa’s strike.

Luka Jovic and Ante Rebic pressed forward after mistakes by Jorginho in the middle of the park, although neither were able to capitalise.

The visitors need to press the issue in the second half to keep their Europa League final dream alive.
