Manchester United stunned by Crystal Palace at Old Trafford (Match Report)

Wilfried Zaha scored twice as Crystal Palace beat Manchester United 3-1 for back-to-back victories at Old Trafford.

Manchester United were once again left frustrated by Crystal Palace who claimed a 3-1 victory, despite a debut goal for Donny van de Beek.

Andros Townsend’s close-range finish gave Palace the lead after seven minutes and David De Gea twice denied Jordan Ayew as the away side threatened on the counter.

Palace’s attacking dominance was not, however, to suggest they were enjoying an easy game – and Paul Pogba reminded his guests of the home side’s prowess with a well-hit shot from the edge of the box.

The thudded effort didn’t come close to beating Vicente Guaita – who flopped to his right and held the ball firmly – but it did ensure players and fans alike avoided complacency.

United established their grip on the game around the half-hour mark but were unable to capitalise on a tame period in charge.

Despite having a defence hit hard by injuries, the visitors looked typically controlled at the back – with Roy Hodgson’s masterful organisation in front of goal shining through.

A penalty for handball by Victor Lindelof, awarded after referee Martin Atkinson had reviewed the incident, was converted at the second attempt.

Ayew’s spot-kick was saved, but the VAR adjudged De Gea had come off his line too early and the retaken penalty was converted by Zaha on 74 minutes.

Substitute Donny van de Beek poked in six minutes later on his debut to reduce the deficit.

But Zaha’s low finish sealed the three points with five minutes remaining to continue Palace’s winning start to the season.
