REPORTS: Frank Lampard signs for Chelsea

Reports in London this afternoon claim that Frank Lampard has signed for Chelsea and will be officially unveiled on Tuesday or Wednesday this week.

The Stamford Bridge hero will take over from former manager Maurizi Sarri who has joined Juventus after winning the Europa Cup for the London club.

The Sun reports that the 41-year-old has signed on the dotted line for the Blues.

Once confirmed, Lampard will be presented to the media later in the week as he begins life in the Blues’ hotseat.

The West London club are thought to have given him a three-year contract, on a salary worth £5.5million per season.

That is an upgrade on Maurizio Sarri’s £5m paycheck but some way short of his top-six rivals, as well as Manuel Pellegrini and Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Following Lampard over from Derby is assistant boss Jody Morris with Sun Sport revealing last week that youth coach Joe Edwards is to be promoted to the senior staff.

The announcement is sure to be a Chelsea love-in as the club’s record goalscorer returns home after five years away.

Fans have been eagerly anticipating the official confirmation of their new manager and the wait is soon to be over.

How Lampard goes about restructuring the club will be a matter of huge interest, despite the Blues’ transfer ban.

With a plethora of young players ready to break through and revitalise the squad following Eden Hazard’s departure, many expect the new boss to give youth a chance.
