Timo Werner: Reason for delay in Chelsea move REVEALED

Reports have emerged as to the reason for the delay in concluding RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner’s transfer to Chelsea despite the decision indicating that the player and the London club are virtually on the same page with regards to the move.

News filtered in last week that Werner had agreed terms with Chelsea to trigger his release clause for a move to Stamford Bridge.

In a bid to fend off any late interest in the 24-year-old, Sports Mole claim that the Premier League outfit are keen to finalise the transfer as soon as possible.

However, according to Raphael Honigstein of The Athletic, quarantine regulations in place due to the coronavirus pandemic will likely lead to a medical being delayed until the end of the month.

On Twitter, Honigstein said: “Delay in the Werner deal is solely down to the practicalities of getting a medical done. He can’t fly to the UK due to Bundesliga Covid-19 regulations and Chelsea docs can’t fly to Germany because they would have to isolate for 14 days upon return.

“Chelsea could use German FA doctors in the meantime but they’re more likely to wait until German season is over on June 27 or quarantine regulations in the UK change.”
