(Watch Highhlights) Tottenham return to the top after North London derby win over Arsenal (Match Report)

First-half goals from Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane followed by an outstanding defensive display ensured victory for Tottenham in the north London derby.

Tottenham Hotspur returned to the top of the Premier League table as 2,000 of their fans enjoyed a 2-0 win over Arsenal.

Arsenal dominated the possession, while Spur scored the goals. The visitors had all of the ball in the opening minutes but failed to test Hugo Lloris and when they launched another cross into the area, it led to Mourinho-tutored side’s opening goal.

Eric Dier headed away, Steven Bergwijn helped it on to Kane, who held the ball up and pinged it out wide left to Son Heung-min. He advanced down the flank before cutting onto his right foot and curling a sumptuous effort from 25 yards out past Bernd Leno’s despairing dive, his 10th goal of the season.

The South Korean returned the compliment in first-half stoppage time when he fed Kane, who powered his shot in off the underside of the bar to become the record scorer in north London derbies, with 11 goals across all competitions.

The goals were the 10th and 11th times the pair had set each other up for goals this season.

Arsenal carried more of a threat after the interval. Just two minutes into the second half, Lloris saved right on his line from Alexandre Lacazette’s flicked header, Aubameyang headed Kieran Tierney’s cross over the bar and Lloris was there again on 68 minutes, just managing to push another Lacazette header away for a corner.

But while Arsenal pushed the hosts back for most of the second period, defensively we were so solid with everyone in the team playing their part, making key blocks, winning vital headers, timing tackles to perfection and just preventing the Gunners from finding a way through.
