Didier Drogba opens up on plan to make Frank Lampard succeed Maurizio Sarri as Chelsea manager

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has thrown his support behind the move to appoint Frank Lampard as manager of the Stamford Bridge club as Maurizio Sarri wants to join Juventus.

The former Napoli boss has been heavily linked with the vacant post of manager of the Old Lady after Max Allegri parted ways with the Serie A giants at the end of last season.

A number of top coaches across Europe have been pencilled down to take take over from the Italian who won Europa Cup for Chelsea and secured Champions League ticket for the club despite his problem with some of the fans.

One of the coaches is former midfielder of the London club, Lamapard, who has been touted by the club’s supporters to replace Sarri on account of his performance at Derby County last season.

Drogba and Lampard were part of one of the most successful teams in Chelsea’s history, winning the Champions League along with many other titles.

And the former striker believes that the Blues should back the former midfielder should Sarri leave after one season in charge.

“I think it [Lampard] is a very good option for the club,” Drogba said.

“He has done well with Derby, you know, taking the team to the play-off final and I think it is a very good option for the club.”

One of the apprehensions that some Chelsea fans have had is over Lampard’s experience as a top flight manager, report Football.London.

Asked if Lampard was ready, Drogba replied: “So he is never going to be ready, then? Does he have to wait until he is 40 or 50 to be ready? I think it depends on your experience and depends on your desire to succeed and do it.

“If he feels ready I don’t think it is too early.”
