Mason Mount identifies Chelsea star who helped his integration into Blues first-team squad

Chelsea star Mason Mount has singled out Jorginho as a key figure in his integration into the first-team squad this season.

Mount, 20, has played a big role in Chelsea’s Premier League campaign, having started all eight games so far.

The Blues have surprised many by picking up four wins from eight games, despite Frank Lampard favouring young players over experienced figures in the dressing room.

Mount has been one of those youngsters used by Lampard, and has been one of the brightest sparks of the campaign.

The attacking midfielder has scored four goals and provided one assist in his first season in the Premier League.

Question marks were raised at the beginning of the season over whether he could continue that form in the Premier League, but the 20-year-old has certainly put that doubt to bed, report Daily Express.

”When you’re coming into a team and playing with someone like Jorginho, how much of a character he is and how big he is within the team, he’s had a massive effect on me,” Mount said.

“I think playing with him, being around him, training with him every day [has helped].

“He’s a massive player for us and you learn so much off a player with that experience of playing at a very, very high level.”

Former Tottenham player Jamie Redknapp was full of praise for Mount after the Southampton game.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said the youngster is “ice-cool” in front of goal before comparing him to Lampard.

“They had one of the best ever in Frank Lampard. Now they’ve got this young kid [Mount] who has four goals,” Redknapp said.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on him but he’s got to get to at least double figures this season.

“The way he finishes is so composed. He’s ice-cool in front of goal. He’s just a good player.”
