Super Eagles striker Junior Ajayi scores twice as Al Ahly beat Zamalek to lift Egypt Super Cup

Junior Ajayi was on song for Al Ahly, scoring the first and the third goal while Hussein El-Shahat scored the second goal to beat Zamalek 3-2 to win the Egyptian Super Cup on Friday night at Borg El Arab Stadium.

Ajayi scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute, finishing Ali Maaloul crossed corner kick with a powerful strike that nestled into the back of Mohamed Awad’s net.

Al-Ahly doubled the score seconds before half time through Hussein El Shahat after Zamalek defenders failed to clear the ball to end the first half with a 2-0 lead for Al-Ahly.

It only took Al Ahly five minutes after the restart to extent their lead to 3-0. Ramadan Sobhi intercepted the ball from Mahmoud ‘Shikabala’ in a dangerous zone and squared it towards Ajayi, who doubled his tally with a smooth finish into the bottom corner.

Zamalek, however, reduced the deficit with Mahmoud Alaa’s two goals from the penalty spot in the 62nd and 75th minutes of the game.

All the efforts by Zamalek to equalize proved abortive as Al Ahly stood their ground, displaying nonesuch discipline to carry the day.
