Ex-Chelsea starlet set to dump England as Germany prepare full call-up

Former Chelsea youngster Jamal Musiala is set to be handed a full Germany call-up – dashing Gareth Southgate’s hopes of picking the Bayern Munich wonderkid.

The 17-year-old, who left Chelsea for Bayern in 2019, has been in stunning form for the German champions.

Having become their youngest ever player last season, Musiala is now a regular – having appeared 20 times this term for Hansi Flick’s side.

Born in Stuttgart, but having gone to school in Croydon between the ages of seven and 16, and with a Nigerian father and German mother – Musiala is eligible for all three countries.

He has featured for both at youth level, but most recently turned out for England’s Under-21 side last November.

According to The Times, however, Musiala is leaning towards choosing Germany and Joachim Low is set to give him a debut in the World Cup qualifiers in March.

Thomas Tuchel reacts to viral video clip over his fondness for Tottenham

Thomas Tuchel has played down his admiration for Spurs after a clip of him speaking of his fondness for Tottenham went viral on social media.

Asked about whether he was a fan of Spurs a kid, Tuchel said: “You’re really digging deep, yes?

“I want to be very honest because we played the Europa League game with Dortmund in Tottenham and everyone there was very friendly.

“I just explained that, when I was young, there was no daily match live on the television, no daily match live from the Bundesliga, so what I could actually see was one or two minutes every four weeks and suddenly a club like Tottenham Hotspur came across on our sports broadcaster.

“I heard the name Tottenham Hotspurs, which sounded like a big adventure and gave me a big advantage playing with my friends because they had no idea where that club was. I talked about that story.

“I was young and needed the money, huh. I was young. That was one of my first experiences. I didn’t even know it’s a club from London.

“But now I’m absolutely aware I work for their big rivals and you can be very, very sure we will do everything we can to beat them next week.”

Thomas Tuchel reveals personal message Frank Lampard sent to him after his appointment this week

New Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed Frank Lampard sent him a personal message wishing him all the best in the job and has offered to meet him.

Tuchel has replaced Lampard at Stamford Bridge after he was sacked on Monday.

In his unveiling press conference on Thursday, Tuchel expressed his admiration for Lampard and revealed the former boss had been in touch with him since his appointment.

Asked if he feared a fan backlash after replacing the club legend, Tuchel said: “I hope not because that would be hard on the team. We need our supporters like any team. To have the fans so close and behind the team makes a real difference. I can assume it is a big, big disappointment for the fanbase to see Frank sacked.

“I was a huge fan of Frank as a player. He was one of the key figures to demonstrate in 90 minutes what Chelsea is about. I have the biggest respect for him.

“It just got bigger when I received a personal message to wish me all the best and maybe meet in the future when this is possible.”

Thomas Tuchel eyes Chelsea reunion with PSG star

Thomas Tuchel could be reunited with PSG defender Marquinhos at Chelsea.

The 26-year-old centre-back was the third most used player by Tuchel at the Parc des Princes, with his versatility coming in handy as he was often deployed as a midfielder.

Chelsea pursued the Brazilian in 2015, and could revive their interest in him with Tuchel in charge, according to Eurosport.

PSG would be unlikely to want to sell, however – so the Blues would have to splash the cash to prise him away.

Chelsea prime target Erling Haaland contacts Mikel Arteta, says “Arsenal are a big club in England”

Erling Haaland has told Mikel Arteta that he needs to give Martin Odegaard regular minutes to see the best of him.

The Norwegian made the move to Arsenal from Real Madrid on loan for the rest of the season.

Odegaard has struggled to establish himself in the Spanish capital, but reminded the world of his quality in a loan spell at Real Sociedad recently.

Haaland has hailed his compatriot as a confidence player and insists when he is feeling comfortable that “incredible things can happen”.

“It will be interesting. Arsenal are a big club in England,” Haaland told VG when asked about Odegaard’s move to Arsenal.

“It’s a bit different football, but I think he can fit in well with Mikel Arteta in the No.10 role. He can enjoy himself there.

“He has to get in there and simply start playing games. That’s what he needs.

“We know how good Odegaard can be. When he gains confidence with the ball, we know that the most incredible things can happen.”

Guardiola told to sign former Chelsea striker Diego Costa

Micah Richards has urged Manchester City to sign former Chelsea striker Diego Costa to strengthen their bid to reclaim the Premier League title.

Costa, 32, is currently a free agent after his contract with Atletico Madrid was terminated at the end of December.

The Spaniard fired Chelsea to two Premier League titles with 52 goals in 89 top-flight games during a three-and-a-half year stay at Stamford Bridge.

Former England defender Richards can think of no better destination for the veteran hitman than City, where he could collect another Premier League winners’ medal.

“Manchester City are already on a ridiculously good run of form but if they signed Diego Costa now, he would win them the Premier League – I am sure of it,” Richards told BBC Sport .

“Costa is 32 and I am not suggesting he is a long-term solution for City up front, but the former Chelsea striker is a free agent after ending his Atletico Madrid contract in December, and can sign for anyone for nothing.

“Why not get him in until the end of the season? He would do more than just ruffle a few feathers and be a pain in the backside for opposition defences – he is a proven finisher who would offer Pep Guardiola’s side a proper plan B.”

Half-Time Report: Chelsea 0-0 Wolves

Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers ended the first-half their Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge all square.

But the hosts have looked more like a cohesive unit in the first half but never really given the impression they might score, despite having a hell of a lot of possession.

Hudson-Odoi has looked their most dangerous player but no one has got on the end of one of his crosses. Wolves are defending well but that’s about all you say about them.

The visitors grew into the game after barely touching the ball early on, but neither goalkeeper has been too busy.

Chelsea ended the half as they began, dominating possession in the face of a stubborn Wolves defence.

Pep Guardiola reveals who Chelsea’s new boss Thomas Tuchel is, says “he’s a friend of mine”

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has welcomed Thomas Tuchel to the Premier League, describing the new Chelsea head coach an “exceptional manager”.

Tuchel’s appointment at Stamford Bridge was confirmed on Tuesday, a day after Chelsea sacked Frank Lampard.

Guardiola and Tuchel previously faced off in the Bundesliga, where the German was in charge of Mainz and Borussia Dortmund while the Spaniard was at Bayern Munich.

Tuchel won the German Cup with Dortmund in 2016/17, and Guardiola is pleased to see Tuchel in England.

“Welcome. He’s an exceptional manager. I’m pretty sure he will have success. Happy to see him here in this country,” the City boss told a press conference.

“When I was at Bayern Munich I played against him at Mainz. At the last season at Dortmund he did an incredible job, the way Dortmund played was outstanding. We fought a lot as Bayern Munich to win that title.

“He’s a friend of mine and I’m happy to see him.”

Former Chelsea star wants to return to Stamford Bridge

Brazilian midfielder Oscar says he hopes to return to Chelsea before he retires.

The 29-year-old left Stamford Bridge for Shanghai SIPG in 2017 after making over 200 appearances for the Blues. Oscar told Yellow and Green Football:

I don’t think about leaving China. There is a great project for me here – but, to end my career, I would like to return to Chelsea.

Oscar said: “I built a beautiful story there and went to the Premier League very young, at a time when fans did not trust Brazilian players that much. I helped change that.

“I’ll be a bit older when I try this move again but, as I am playing very well, with good stats, I feel there is still a place for me at Chelsea.”

Antonio Conte makes dramatic U-turn over Inter Milan star’s move to Arsenal

Inter Milan have performed a dramatic U-turn and will KEEP former Arsenal target Christian Eriksen.

Antonio Conte confirmed the change of stance after the Dane scored a dramatic late winner in Tuesday’s Milan derby.

Eriksen came off the bench and scored the winner with a trademark free kick, his first goal of the season.

After the game, Conte told Rai Sport: “Eriksen will stay here at Inter.

“He’s not leaving because we’re not signing any players, so we won’t let him leave the club.

“I’m so happy for his goal.”

He added that: “For a month now I’ve been saying the same thing: this is the Inter squad. Nobody will arrive, nobody will leave. I keep saying it and nobody seems to believe me.

“We are working with Eriksen on a tactical level to find an alternative for Brozovic, because we don’t have someone like that in the squad.

“Christian is a very intelligent lad, he has quality, he’s part of the project and I am happy he scored that goal. I really wanted him to take it, as we all know the quality he has from set plays.

“He’s very shy, so I hope this goal can shake him up and make him come out of his shell. We all like him, he’s a good lad, perhaps too good! He needs to be more determined.”
