Thomas Tuchel looked stunned on the side of the pitch-as Werner missed a sitter- as if he genuinely could not believe what he had seen.
The Chelsea boss shook his head, raised his hands and turned away with a look of total disbelief in his eyes.
It was a pretty amazing miss as Chelsea entered the last quarter of the game – a crucial one in the battle for the top-four places – 1-0 up rather than leading by two goals.
After Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over West Ham, Tammy Abraham gave Timo Werner a hug for a job well done as the German’s goal delivered the all-important three points to the Blues as the race for the top four hots up.
West Ham’s game-plan is to sit back with all ten outfield players behind the ball.
And then hope to catch Chelsea sleeping and hit the visitors on a devistating counter attack.
They almost made it to half-time without conceding, but it was Werner who scored in the 43rd minute to score his second Premier League goal in his last 20 games or so.
Tuchel will be happy with his teams performance, and if they manage to hold out they will go three points clear of West Ham and four clear of Liverpool.
Moyes will be telling his team not to panic, they’re only a goal behind with a whole half of football still to play.
West Ham had been building momentum but it’s the visitors that have scored at a crucial moment.
And what an excellent goal it is. Timo Werner does superbly to roll his man, he spreads it out wide to Chilwell who puts the ball on a plate for the German to slot home beyond Fabianski.
Against the run of play, yes, but Werner was deserving of that goal for a strong first half.
