Footballer dies after Cardiac arrest during match

A Greek footballer has died aged just 21 after a cardiac arrest during a match with no defibrillator or ambulance at the stadium.

Alexandros Lampis was turning out for third-tier side Ilioupoli.

But with just five minutes on the clock, reports in his homeland say the attacking midfielder collapsed.

Tragically, there was no way to resuscitate him on the pitch and the ambulance did not arrive at the ground for another 20 minutes.

Ilioupoli announced the sad news on their social media channels.

Translated from Greek, the club wrote: “Our Aleko, our friend, our brother, you left so unjustly.

“The whole team, the whole city is mourning today.

“The words do not come out… only an unbearable pain and a knot in the stomach. Have a good trip Alecara.”

The shocking incident comes just eight months after Christian Eriksen fell to the turf playing for Denmark at Euro 2020.

Like Lampis, the midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest.

Thankfully, doctors and medics were able to jump into action immediately with CPR and get his heart beating again.

He made a full recovery in hospital, had an ICD fitted and signed a six-month deal with Brentford this week to make a return to professional football.

There have also been a number of concerning incidents surrounding player heart conditions in recent months.

Sergio Aguero was forced to retire after experiencing chest pains playing for Barcelona while there were also scares for Victor Lindelof and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Another Chelsea legend joins Frank Lampard at Everton, says “I was thrilled when Frank asked me to join him at Everton”

Former Chelsea star Ashley Cole has left his role within the academy to join Frank Lampard and Joe Edwards on Merseyside for their new Everton adventure.

Cole, who spent eight playing years with Lampard in west London, was occupying a coaching role in the Blues’ academy coupled with having a job with England’s Under-21s.

Following on from Joe Edwards’ capture and the failed move to bring Anthony Barry to Liverpool, former Chelsea boss Lampard has continued his raid on his beloved club with this latest capture.

Speaking to the Everton website about this news, he said: “I’m delighted to add Ashley into my backroom team. Everyone knows about his superb playing career and what he has achieved in the game.

“He is now a well-respected coach which has been recognised by his work with England Under-21s. He’ll bring a wealth of enthusiasm, game-play experience and is a very good young coach who adds strength to our coaching staff.”

Cole then went on to add: “I was thrilled when Frank asked me to join him at Everton.

“This is a brilliant opportunity with a fantastic club and I am coming here to work hard and try to help bring success to Everton.

“The chance to link up again with Frank was another huge draw. He is an excellent manager and leader. With the rest of the staff here, we have everything in place for what we want to achieve together.”
