Valencia sack manager, sporting director days before clashes against Barcelona, Chelsea

Valencia have sacked Coach Marcelino and sporting director Mateu Alemany at the behest of president Peter Lim, say reports.

Los Che are billed to face Barcelona this weekend and visit Stamford Bridge to flag off their Champions League campaign against Chelsea.

Alemany was behind Marcelino’s appointment two summers ago and stuck by the Coach in the first half of last season with the club languishing in the bottom half of the standings.

However, Marcelino went on to steer the situation around – guiding Los Che to their second successive top four finish as well as the Copa del Rey title and Europa League semi-finals.

According to Football Espana, Alemany has been the individual accredited for Valencia’s rise back to the top of Spanish football in the past two seasons – they have recorded successive top four finishes after back-to-back campaigns in which they ended the season 12th in La Liga.

Lim is said to have interfered in sporting matters and this has led to a professional fallout between the individuals, with Alemany considering his position untenable.

Former Barcelona star gets prison sentence illegal possession of firearm

Arda Turan has been given a 32-month prison sentence ahead of his side’s Europa League clash with Roma.

The Istanbul Basaksehir winger was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, plus intent to intimidate and cause panic, dating back to an incident that took place in October 2018.

However, according to Football Italia, the 32-year-old was cleared of sexual assault and local media reports the sentence has been suspended for the time being.

The Turk is considered one of his country’s greatest-ever exports, winning Spanish titles with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

Despite that, he has played just 31 times for Basaksehir since arriving from Barca in January of last year.

His price has plummeted to €1m on Transfermarkt and he was banned for 10 games last season after he attacked a referee.

Neymar rape accuser Najila Trindade, boyfriend charged with extortion, fraud

There are reports that the Brazilian model who accused football star Neymar of rape has been charged with fraud and extortion.

Najila Trindade filed a rape complaint with Sao Paulo police upon her return from a trip to Paris in May in which she said she was assaulted by the Paris St-Germain star following a pre-arranged meeting.

A judge dismissed the case in August, citing insufficient evidence.

After the news, Neymar said : ‘I’ll be sincere and I’m not going to say I’m happy, but yes, relieved.’ in an Instagram post.

But on Tuesday, Sao Paulo police said they indicted the model for procedural fraud, slanderous denunciation and extortion, report the Daily Mail.

Her former partner Estivens Alves is also accused of disclosing erotic content, which was then published online.

A final decision on whether to prosecute Trindade will be left to a judge.

Neymar always vehemently denied allegations he raped Brazilian Najila Trindade, who cited as evidence a video of her confronting the star after the attack.

Prosecutors officially closed the investigation against Neymar earlier this month, citing a lack of evidence against him.

Neymar said he would ‘never forget’ this incident due to the ‘PAIN it caused me, my family and the people who really know me.’
