Frank Lampard reveals his advice to Callum Hudson-Odoi

Frank Lampard has called on Callum Hudson-Odoi to consistently produce the performance that spearheaded Chelsea’s comeback from three goals down to draw away to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The young winger came off the bench at half-time and scored the second goal in an exciting comeback that was still not sufficient to mask the defensive mistakes of the opening period.

Hudson-Odoi had struggled for end product in the midweek Carabao Cup win over Barnsley but given another chance to impress at The Hawthorns, he stated a convincing case for more regular minutes.

Lampard was impressed but said that for Hudson-Odoi must maintain that level going forward.

“Callum gave me everything I asked and wanted from him in terms of his ability to go one v one, trying to take people on and he got his goal,” the head coach told football.london.

“That’s what Callum needs to do. That’s the sort of impact he can have for us and it has to be consistent. He gave himself a great platform now to continue in that vain. He’ll be very important for us if he does.”

Thiago Silva responds to criticisms against his horror show during West Brom match

Chelsea’s new signing Thiago Silva had a horror show against West Brom and has apologised to fans.

Tammy Abraham struck in stoppage time to complete a spectacular second-half comeback for Chelsea at West Bromwich Albion.

Callum Robinson’s arrowed finish gave West Brom a fourth-minute lead and the striker capitalised on a loose touch from Chelsea debutant and captain Thiago Silva to double the lead on 25 minutes.

West Brom had a third two minutes later as Kyle Bartley converted Darnell Furlong’s flick at a corner.

Mason Mount’s long-range shot gave Chelsea hope 10 minutes after half-time. Callum Hudson-Odoi added a second after a neat exchange with Kai Havertz.

And three minutes into time added on, Abraham tapped in Sam Johnstone’s parry as Chelsea came from 3-0 behind to avoid defeat for the first time in the Premier League.

The Brazilian later took to his social media account to tell fans how much their support means to him.

He wrote: “I want to thank my teammates and the entire staff for their continuous support since I joined Chelsea FC. I am really grateful of that support .

“I promise to all of you that I will give everything I have on the pitch, putting all my energy and commitment into the games to come.”

Revealed: Why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to sign N’Golo Kante for Manchester United

Fresh reports have emerged as to the reason Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante.

The Mirror claim the Red Devils boss is a long-term admirer of the of the abrasive all-action player, and has made a surprise enquiry for him.

It is also claimed that Solskjaer wants the 29-year-old to “add extra muscle” to his impressive midfield line-up which includes recent signings Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek..

Contact has been made with the midfielder’s representatives – but he would have to take a big cut on his £300,000-per-week wages.

He is also attracting interest from Inter Milan, managed by former Stamford Bridge manager Antonio Conte.

It appears that Chelsea, who have spent more than £200million in this transfer window, are prepared to allow Kante to leave for the right offer.

PSG renew interest in Chelsea star

Antonio Rudiger is reportedly a loan target of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, who are hoping to snap up the out-of-favour 27-year-old.

According to the Daily Mail , Paris Saint-Germain have made an approach for the German. The French champions want to loan Rudiger for the season, but include an option to buy clause in the deal.

Barcelona have also been named as a potential landing spot, but Chelsea would prefer to sell on a permanent basis.

Nevertheless, with Rudiger not a part of Lampard’s plans and expected to leave before the 5 October deadline, negotiations continue.

Guardiola reveals reason Manchester City lost scandalously to Leicester City

Pep Guardiola has come out to explian the reason his team lost to visiting Leicester, saying that Manchester City lost belief when a goal up during Sunday’s capitulation.

Riyad Mahrez had given his side an early lead but Guardiola bemoaned a nervousness among the hosts as they failed to convert a dominance in possession into a second goal.

City conceded five goals at home for the first time in 17 years and the defeat serves as a significant early blow to their title aspirations.

“We didn’t create much and started to think we weren’t playing well,” Guardiola said.

“We put the pressure on ourselves to score the second but we have to be more calm.

“We were anxious, we got nervous when not creating chances. We told them at half-time that they were playing good, try to be patient and the rest will be in our hands.

“Then to concede the second and third it became more difficult. They defended so deep. When that has happened in the past in these games, we have won in small margins. We don’t have the players to attack the box.

“It’s difficult when a team plays deep and doesn’t run. We need to be more patient, not chase the second and third goals. It’s tough, it’s not easy to accept, but we have to accept it.

“Maybe we should let them get out more and then punish them on the counter attack.”

City only registered five shots on target and were caught out defensively, with the hope being that the £64million signing of Ruben Dias, who is joining from Benfica, will give them more solidity. Nicolas Otamendi is heading in the opposite direction for around £14m.

(Watch Video) Cristiano Ronaldo’s double rescues Juventus (Match Report)

Juventus talisman Cristiano Ronaldo rescued one point for the Bianconeri on Sunday after scoring twice for the Turin club to end the match against AS Roma in a 2-2 draw, even after Adrien Rabiot saw red.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan had the first chance after 12 minutes, bursting forward on the counter, skipping past Leonardo Bonucci to test Wojciech Szczesny one-on-one.

Juve slowly built up the pressure with a series of corners, but Danilo was offside when his header was tipped over the bar by Antonio Morante.

Dzeko was furious when he was running on goal and went down while tussling with Giorgio Chiellini, but the free kick was correctly given against him, as it was the Bosnian who had a fistful of jersey.

Moments later, Roma were awarded a penalty, as Adrien Rabiot blocked the Jordan Veretout shot by sticking up an arm and fist, not even protesting the inevitable decision. Veretout converted it himself, although it squirmed under Szczesny’s arm and in off the post, in a stroke of luck for the Giallorossi.

Gianluca Mancini and Aaron Ramsey both went for the Ronaldo cross, nodding it just wide of the near post from point-blank range.

Juve were also awarded a penalty for an obvious handball, as Lorenzo Pellegrini left his arm dangling to intercept the ball when Ronaldo ran into the box. CR7 converted it himself, sending Antonio Mirante the wrong way to side-foot into the corner.

However, the Bianconeri were caught napping in stoppages and went behind again to a classic counter-attack. Mkhitaryan sprinted down the left on an inspired Dzeko pass, rolled it across for Veretout, who took a touch to get past Cuadrado and beat on-rushing Szczesny.

Pedro Rodriguez’s curling effort was palmed out from under the bar after the restart, but Dzeko somehow failed to score when he was sent clear by Spinazzola, perhaps had too much time and space from 12 yards to second-guess himself and instead clipped the upright.

Ronaldo’s volley was too close to Mirante, so Pirlo introduced Arthur and Douglas Costa. However, Juve went down to 10 men, as Rabiot completed a nightmare match by lunging through the back of Mkhitaryan for a second yellow card.

Dzeko wasted another golden opportunity by scuffing his finish at Szczesny on the Davide Santon assist, and the Giallorossi were punished for these errors.

Ronaldo hung in the air for an age to get his head to the Danilo cross, leaping above Bruno Peres, making it 2-2 for 10-man Juventus and completing his brace.

Both Pedro and Bruno Peres failed to get on the end of the Spinazzola cross, while Giorgio Chiellini risked an own goal to prevent Mkhitaryan tapping in a Pedro cross.

Jamie Vardy scores hat-trick as Leicester put Manchester City to the sword at Etihad (Match Report)

Jamie Vardy hit a hat-trick to maintain his incredible scoring record against Manchester City as Leicester City earned an emphatic 5-2 win at Etihad Stadium.

Vardy’s treble was his second against Man City and took his tally to eight goals in nine appearances versus Pep Guardiola’s side.

It was Man City who took the lead after only four minutes when Riyad Mahrez rifled in an unstoppable right-foot shot into the top-left corner.

Leicester levelled on 37 minutes through Vardy’s first penalty after he was fouled by Kyle Walker.

Vardy then put the visitors ahead with an expertly flicked 54th-minute finish after fine interplay between Timothy Castagne and Youri Tielemans.

He then completed his hat-trick four minutes later, again giving Ederson no chance with his second spot-kick after he was fouled by Eric Garcia.

James Maddison scored a superb fourth for the visitors with an exquisite 30-yard curler before Nathan Ake pulled a goal back for Man City with a header from Mahrez’s corner.

But the Foxes added a fifth when Tielemans converted Leicester’s third penalty with two minutes left.

Luis Suarez nets brace in 20 minutes on Atletico Madrid debut as Diego Simeone side crush Grenada (Match Report)

Luis Suarez scored twice and assisted on his Atletico Madrid debut as he helped his new side to a comprehensive win over in-form Granada on Sunday.

The Uruguayan only had a 20-minute cameo for Diego Simeone’s side but he enjoyed an action-packed period on the pitch, as he also won a penalty in that timeframe which was overturned by VAR.

Atleti were in control of the game throughout and they opened the scoring in the ninth minute through a Diego Costa header but they were denied a second as Saul Niguez’s penalty was stopped by visiting goalkeeper Rui Silva.

However, the floodgates opened in the second half with Angel Correa, Joao Felix and Marcos Llorente – assisted by Suarez – all on the scoresheet, before the former Barcelona striker got off the mark at his new club from a headed finish.

Jorge Molina pulled a late consolation goal back for Granada – who had won their opening two league games – but it was not enough to spoil Atleti’s party and Suarez had time to net his second and Atleti’s sixth, as he followed up after his initial effort came back off the post.

West Ham flatten Woverhampton Wanderers (Match Report)

Wolves suffered a bad day at the office on Sunday evening as West Ham United hit four goals without reply and inflicted back-to-back defeats on Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

West Ham United picked up their first win of the Premier League season after a Jarrod Bowen brace was added to by Tomas Soucek and Sebastien Haller headers, while at the other end, Wolves left Lukasz Fabianksi relatively untroubled.

The Hammers, who had lost their four previous matches against Wolves without scoring, went 1-0 up on 17 minutes. A quick free-kick from Pablo Fornals picked out Bowen, who expertly curled a low shot beyond Rui Patricio.

Ruben Neves hit the best of his side’s chances at Fabianksi with the score at 1-0, but in truth, Wolves failed to create much in the way of clear-cut chances.

The London Stadium had previously proved a happy hunting ground for Wolves, who’d won on their previous two visits under Nuno, but a first conceded goal against the Hammers in the Premier League since 2011 instantly made Sunday evening’s task a tougher one.

There’d been little to choose between the two sides before Fornals’ quickly taken free-kick freed Bowen down the right and the wide man cut in on his left foot, before curling into the bottom corner, beyond Rui Patricio’s dive.

Fornals blasted over from close range in an opening 45 minutes dominated by the home side.

West Ham doubled their tally in the 57th minute when Bowen tapped in a loose ball after Fornals’ long-range effort hit the post.

The Hammers added a third when Tomas Soucek’s header from Aaron Cresswell’s corner was deflected in for an own goal by Raul Jimenez.

Sebastien Haller headed in a fourth in stoppage time, meaning West Ham and Wolves now both have one victory from their opening three matches.

Frank Lampard reacts to Thiago Silva’s error for West Brom their second goal

Frank Lampard has refused to blame Thiago Silva following the Brazilian’s error for West Brom’s second goal as he was robbed of possession by Matheus Pereira, who then set Callum Robinson away to score.

The Blues boss said: “Thiago Silva is going to be fantastic for us. He has been incredible in his career and absolutely, I will not look at him. I can talk about the mistakes, they are clear and I am open and honest about that.

“We are a team but we have to react around that and, to be fair, the team did in the second half.

“But, there is nothing on Thiago, I am sure he will stand up and say it was a mistake. But other than that, I thought he was pretty faultless in the game. That’s his first Premier League game done and in the bank. We will get a lot more from him as well especially as he gets fitter and as the whole squad get fitter.”
