Pedro handed Chelsea a 1-0 victory over Reading as the London club continued their preparations for the season restart.

It was a behind-closed-doors friendly against against the Championship club at Cobham, with key players of the Premier League featuring.

N’Golo Kante, who returned to contact training yesterday, was among those involved, as were Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Billy Gilmour, Willian, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Mateo Kovacic .

Pedro scored in the first half as Frank Lampard’s side got off to a winning start as they stepped up preparations for the return of Premier League football next week.

Chelsea handed major boost in Ben Chilwell pursuit

Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Ben Chilwell as Leicester are reportedly lining up a move for Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico.

Bayer Leverkusen react to Chelsea £70m swoop for Kai Havertz

Bayer Leverkusen have responded to speculation that Chelsea have opened discussions over a move for Kai Havertz.

The attacking midfielder has attracted interest from a host of top clubs thanks to his performances in the Bundesliga this season, but it is Chelsea who have reportedly made the first move.

The Bundesliga club’s sporting director Rudi Voller stated the club have not given up he’ll stay”.

According to the Sportsmail, Chelsea are preparing to launch a transfer bid for the 20-year-old.

And they have identified the £75m-rated Havertz as that player – although they face stiff competition from top European clubs.

But despite Chelsea’s interest, Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller believes they can have Havertz in their ranks beyond this season.

“We haven’t given up hope that he’ll stay with us,” Voller told ARD.

“We try to give him every possibility that he can call up his qualities.

“He did an outstanding job in the second half of the season.”

Havertz is enjoying a brilliant season with Bayer – scoring 15 goals in 38 games across all competitions for the German club to date.

Newcastle close in on Chelsea target, “have already started talks”

Newcastle are reportedly in talks to sign Philippe Coutinho and are the Barcelona outcast’s most likely destination should their £300m takeover go through.

But the Magpies have competition, with Tottenham and Everton also keen on the 27-year-old.

Spurs tried to sign him last summer before he joined Bayern Munich on loan, while Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti is a big admirer and is keen to bring Coutinho back to Merseyside.

France Football say Newcastle are the frontrunners, but their bid is dependent on their proposed takeover led by Mohammed Bin Salman going through.

The MailOnline add that Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are also weighing up loan offers for the playmaker.

REVEALED: How Cristiano Ronaldo’s factor won’t allow Pedro to join Juventus in summer

Chelsea forward Pedro appears set to avoid an awkward reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo, by reportedly shunning Juventus interest in favour of a switch to Serie A rivals Roma.

With his contract set to expire at Stamford Bridge this summer, the 32-year-old has been linked extensively with both clubs.

Serie A giants Juve are on the hunt for bargain signings in the summer window and are reported to be after players on free transfers.

Former Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is keen to reunite with the veteran winger who’s also piqued the interest of Juve’s rivals Roma.

And while on paper a move to Turin would seem attractive, meeting old adversary Ronaldo again maybe not so much.

Tensions between the pair once flared during Barcelona’s infamous 5-0 rout over Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid side in the 2010-11 season.

The pair’s argument followed a brawl that began when Ronaldo shoved former Nou Camp boss Pep Guardiola after he refused to hand him the match ball.

The Portuguese had attempted to wind-up the future Blues winger by sarcastically asking: “Who are you?”

In response, newly crowned World Cup winner Pedro coolly responded: “I’m a world champion.”

Chelsea prime target Kai Havertz opens up on his NEXT club as Blues open transfer talks

Bayer Levekusen forward Kai Havertz has declared his desire to join a club that can immediately compete for trophies.

The Germany international has attracted attention from top clubs across the continent, with Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid all linked with a summer bid.

And the Sportsmail claim Chelsea are far ahead of others in the chase for the youngster as the London club have stepped up their interest by opening transfer talks for the Bundesliga star.

Havertz told Marca thatL: “The team is always the priority, success is collective.

“Then, the individual [trophies] come when you play well. I want to win the biggest trophies during in my career: Champions League, World Cup or Euros. I don’t think much about the individual [trophies].”

Havertz also opened up on the possibility of staying in Germany, with champions Bayern thought to be one of the favourites for his signature.

“They (Bayern) are probably the biggest club in Germany and there are many players that were very successful at a young age that went there.

“Therefore, I get linked with Bayern, but we’ll see what happens. There are players that want to stay close to their family and others say, ‘I want to live in another country’.

“There’s something clear: if you want to be a star in Germany, you can’t go wrong with Bayern.

“I think I’ve picked up enough international experience at Leverkusen. I know the rhythm of these international matches and I’m confident that I can go abroad at any moment and play at clubs outside of Germany.

“For the moment, I want to have a good season. Afterwards, we’ll see.”

When the interviewer pointed out his style would suit Barcelona, he added: “Yes, because Barcelona have a lot of the ball, but there are lots of teams that do that these days, not only Barcelona.

“Real Madrid, for example, are a team that have a lot of possession, although they’ve been a bit less efficient than Barcelona in recent years.”
